How can feedback inspire a client?

Every client should finish a personal training session with a sense of accomplishment, and satisfaction. This is an aspect which the personal trainer can encourage.

It is vital to provide honest, informative and constructive feedback on client performances both during and after the session. The feedback given can improve a client’s technique, keep them motivated and help with future performance.
It is extremely easy to provide feedback to clients when they are performing well and safely, it becomes a struggle when the client isn’t performing as well. You must find an appropriate way to provide equally positive, constructive feedback which is inoffensive in order to let them know they are compromising safety and effectiveness.
Providing feedback requires you to be mindful about your tone, facial expressions and body language. These factors will affect how the client takes your feedback and they will either be motivated or possibly become annoyed at what you’re telling them.
While completing a session, the personal trainer should always allow time for a client to ask questions about a whole range of aspects such as their technique, what muscles are being worked and what benefits they will receive from a certain exercise.

As well as giving feedback during and after sessions, it may be beneficial to you both to have a sit down and chat every few weeks. This will allow you to discuss in detail, where the client started and how close they are to achieving their goals, keeping them motivated. It is also an opportunity to discuss how to progress further.
Having regular feedback session allows the trainer to understand which exercises and activities the client likes, this enabling them to create programmes which involves them. If the client likes the programme and exercises they are completing, they are going to be motivated and ready for action every session.
Feedback can enhance a client’s development both physically and mentally, along with increasing their knowledge of training and the human anatomy. This in return can encourage long-term commitment and importantly their motivation to continue training to the best of their ability.
